Hideo Kojima Still Has Plans For ‘Zone of the Enders’ Sequel

This will make a lot of gamers pretty happy. The creator of the Metal Gear franchise was quoted recently as saying that he still wants to make a sequel for the cult series Zone of the Enders. It’s been a few years since he declared that there would be another sequel, but not much has happened with the project since then. At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, he finally brought up the subject of the game once more. While he was showing off the recently announced HD remake of both of the original games for the PS3, he went on to speak further about the future of the series by declaring that the sequel was in development. Kojima was apparently so surprised to see so many people turning out to hear about the new HD remakes that he decided to announce that he would return to his office and start working on the sequel once more.

Zone of the Enders is a critically acclaimed game series for the PS2 that still seems to be a bit of a hidden treasure for most gamers. The first game can be had fairly cheap on the used market, but the second game is much more rare, garnering prices close to that of a new game. With that in mind, the news of an HD remake of both games in one package for the PS3 is quite welcome news for the fans. Even more importantly, in addition to announcing his intentions to start working on the sequel, Kojima revealed that this PS3 game collection would include 3-4 minutes of new animation. The Zone of the Enders collection has a planned release date in 2012, but we don’t yet know the official North American release date as of yet. Regardless, this is all good news for fans of the franchise and gamers in general. Here’s hoping that the Zone of the Enders PS3 collection sells well enough to convince Kojima to really get working on the sequel.

With less and less truly great video game franchises on the market, Zone of the Enders is one of the series we desperately need a comeback for. It’s great to hear that Kojima’s finally decided to work on the third installment. I have been waiting far too long!

Also, I am almost certain I will upgrade.

On a far lesser note, I have Kojima’s Autograph!
